| Giving the Gift of Hope to Oncology Patients |
|
| What a difference has been made from the unprecedented proceeds generated from the 2009 BIGHORN Behind A Miracle golf tournament. Because of your tremendous outpouring of support, Eisenhower physicians and medical staff are better equipped to offer their oncology patients the finest possible diagnostic and treatment technologies in a caring, healing environment. |
| |
Your kind generosity has made possible the following purchases and services for the BIGHORN Radiation Oncology Center and the Schnitzer/Novack Breast Center:
BIGHORN Behind A Miracle 2009 Tournament Proceeds Purchases

| |
| $100,000 Support for an additional year of transportation for oncology patients. |
|
JC Transportation will be awarded the contract again for FY 2010. As an aside, JC-Johnny Castro and his brother own this company. They started this business because they lost family members to cancer and saw them struggle for transportation. This year they decided to upgrade their vehicles. On one occasion there was a patient who, when they were taking him home, shared he needed a prescription. Johnny took him to a pharmacy and when the cost exceeded what the main had, Johnny offered to pay for it with his own money. There are other patient stories we are gathering from the 450 patients served. Due to the overwhelming need and the opening in Q1 of 2010 of our radiation oncology facility in the new Eisenhower George and Julia Argyros Health Center in La Quinta, the allocation was increased to $100,000. |
|
| $60,000 Breast MRI Computer AIded Detection (CAD System) |
| |
| $50,000 Digital Faxitron x 2 ($25k each). |
| |
The Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center wishes to purchase two (2) rapid breast tumor specimen x-ray/analyzers. One would be used during surgery in the hospital OR and the other used in the Schnitzer/Novack Breast Center at the time of biopsy. Having this technology in the OR will cut the surgery time in half; the same time efficiency applies to biopsy time in the Breast Center. |
| |
| $20,000 Gamma Probe for Sentinel Lymph Node Localization |
| |
| $5,000 Breast Cancer Genetic Counseling Services for 20 people- |
| |
$250/person (service is not covered by insurance) |
| |
| $90,000 Bone Densitometer |
| |
This is an upgraded machine so that the Breast Center can have faster throughput allowing patients to have their mammogram and bone density test during the same appointment, especially when the bone study and mammogram are for post chemo follow up. |
| |
| $20,000 Blanket Warmer |
| |
This is to provide warm comfort during treatment for radiation oncology patients at the new radiation oncology facility in the Eisenhower George and Julia Argyros Health Center in La Quinta. |
| |
| $15,000 New Breast Cancer Patient Diagnosis Supply Kit |
| |
Currently when a Lucy Curci Cancer patient receives a diagnosis of brest cancer they are given a book by breast health specialist Judy C. Kneece, RN, OCN entitled: Your Breast Cancer Treatment Handbook. It is a wonderfully comprehensive 230 page tool that offers psychologically supportive and medically useful information that empowers patients to be better informed and in control. Patients receive the book from the medical staff along with wound supplies, ice pack(s) and biopsy care instructions in a pink plastic carry bag. These are given to the patients at no charge. This book offering may be in jeopardy. It is $25-and I am looking into how many breast cancers EMC diagnosis each year. $25 x 600 = $15k...I hope we don't have that many... |
| |
| |
The breast health RNs would not only like to retain this important book as a cancer patient gift, they would like to expand the patient bag to also have a special primer book on how to read and consider a breast cancer pathology report. With a possibility of a gift like this there may well be other resource items they could consider that would be of immediate value to breast cancer patients. |
| |
| $3,000 Donor Plaque Updates |
|
| Mere words cannot express the gratitude Eisenhower Medical Center has for the heart-felt support that BIGHORN Behind A Miracle donors have provided to help detect and treat breast cancer patients. Thank you all for your Gift of Hope. |
